Chris Travis is the Managing Partner and lead residential designer for Sentient Architecture, LLC.  He has served as a consultant and designer for major residential and small commercial projects in Texas since 1975. He is an expert in historic design and the restoration of indigenous Texas historic structures as well as for high-end residential projects in a variety of styles, including but not limited to: Victorian, Rustic & Primitive, Colonial, Arts and Crafts, Gothic, Mediterranean, Craftsman and Ranch styles. One of his projects was awarded a T. C. Jester award for excellence in historic design in the historic Houston Heights. In 1981, Mr. Travis' company was named Re-modeler of the Year by the Greater Houston Builder's Association.

Although not a registered architect, Mr. Travis was the Managing Partner of Round Top Architecture, LLC for several years while working with a registered professional before teaming up with Robert Brett Pitt. The firm continues to use the name in the rural areas it has served in the past but does business outside that area as Sentient Architecture, LLC. Prior to his involvement as a partner in architecture firms, Mr. Travis worked as a custom home builder in the HoustonTexas areas. In 2002, he sold his construction company to his son, Shiloh Travis, and the company is now known as Round Top Companies. Mr. Travis’s experience in the construction and restoration industry has been very unique as he has worked his way up from carpenter to contractor, to historic restoration builder, to custom home builder working for registered architects, and finally to the Managing Partner of an architecture firm. Throughout his building career, Mr. Travis has also completed construction on a variety of commercial structures, including schools, day-care centers, offices, retail spaces, recording studios, medical facilities, audio-visual presentation centers and other specialized commercial projects.

He spoke for several years at the national convention of the National Association of Home Builders. His humorous and insightful look into the restoration of antique buildings, particularly in rural areas, has made him a popular speaker in the Central Texas area he calls home. His work has appeared in Builder Magazine, more than once in Country Living, Cowboys and Indians, Houston Home and Garden, Home Companion, Sun Coast Magazine, Texas Highways, and more recently, Texas Monthly.  It has been televised on the PBS documentary, Digital Nation, in which Mr. Travis played a significant on-screen role.

In addition to designing and building homes, Mr. Travis is also a master carpenter, a furniture maker, a writer, a poet, a song-writer, a children's advocate, a humorist, and public speaker. As a writer, Mr. Travis is the editor and publisher of the regional humor and commentary newspaper, the Round Top Register, and in this regard has been the subject of articles in the New York Times, Editor and Publisher Magazine, and other national and regional publications. The Register's website was named one of the Top Ten Media Websites in Texas by Texas Monthly.  He has been interviewed by the BBC and a variety of Texas newspapers and TV stations.

Among Mr. Travis’s more recent and notable contributions to the field of architecture is the creation and development of the True Home Workshop, a systematic method for designing homes tailored in an exact way to fit individuals and families. He is currently engaged in completing a book about this system - and therapeutic architecture in general - in coordination with a clinical psychologist. The True Home Workshop is designed to provide clients with the tools necessary to create an "experience of home" that meets their unique emotional and psychological needs, lifestyle, and budget.

Mr. Travis and his wife are the founders of the Round Top Family Library, a full service public library that also serves the community as an academic enrichment resource.  He is also the co-author of the Round Top Land Use and Architectural Controls Ordinance. Round Top is the smallest community in the State of Texas with a public library and an architectural controls ordinance.  Mr. Travis is the father of three children, has four grandchildren, and lives with his wife Cheryl in the small towns of Round Top, Texas and Cloudcroft, New Mexico.
